Habitat Catalogues of the 1980s

Hi!
I have recently bought 1980s Habitat Catalogues off eBay, I only have 1988/1989 left to buy.  There are some amazing 80s decor / furniture etc in these catalogues - red is prominent, grey and black ash!
If only it were possible to actually go and phone Habitat and buy these items!  If you had Habitat items in your 80s house / apartment then you were obviously cool!

Next week I shall be scanning in some photos of my favourite items for you to all enjoy!

80s Adverts

Who remembers some of these!  There were some classic 80s ads - from "Accrington Stanley" to "The Water in Majorca" - "J. R. Hartley" - and the Milky Way Theme Tune "The Red Car and the Blue Car had a Race", the "Gold Blend" will they / won't they that went on for about 10 years and "Papa, Nicole!!" to name but a few!

I remember we all used to sing the songs and repeat the ads on the way to school.

What did you collect in the 1980s?

One of the things I collected as a kid of the 80s were stickers, as did a load of others I guess - from themed sticker albums, which you took swapsies to school were everyone would say "Got / Haven't" and you could never finish the album without having to send a form at the back of the book off for the ones you didn't have, usually to Panini.

I had a Neighbours sticker album, My Little Pony, Smash Hits, Care Bears and even though I don't really like football I had a Mexico '86 one (lol).

But aside from the themed sticker albums I also used to collect these stickers below - they would be stuck on my school books, along all my white MFI bedroom furniture, around my TV, on my headboard - EVERYWHERE!

Who can remember these, or who used to collect them also?

80s Fashion - Boots!

Take a look at www.etsy.com for some fab 80s vintage clothing and accessories.  I particularly love these 80s boots - as a kid I had mint green ankle boots with a pointed front and kitten heel - the design; the outline shapes of the moon and stars cut into the leather.  Can't believe I wore kitten heels at the age of 5 and 6 - of course teamed with a similar colour batwing jumper and dusky pink chord ski pants!  LOVELY! - I shall try and find a picture and post.

Great 80s Reference Books

Here are some of my favourite 80s reference books - I was bought the New Romantics book for Xmas by my boyfriend, and has some amazing photos!
There are some great 80s inspired books on Amazon.  I'm hoping that Ashes to Ashes will bring out an episode companion book as was made with Life on Mars!

Smash Hits and other 80s Magazines

Here are some of my favourite 1980s magazines which I read religiously every week, mostly it was Smash Hits and I would cut out the lyrics section you got with it and keep them in my scrap book.  For some reason I really remember the Madonna "La Isla Bonita" one more than any of the others, could be because I listened to it over and over and must have sang it very loudly in my bedroom with a hairbrush, whilst trying to do the Madonna dance sequences in lace gloves and leggings!

Favourite 1980s Partnerships!

Here are just SOME of my favourite 1980s partnerships, from on/off lovers, to 80s bands, and will they / won't theys - (not forgetting the ones based in the 1980s such as Gene and Alex ((Galex)) from Ashes to Ashes)

A brilliant 1980s sitcom - one which I loved as a kid, it's got great comedy, great 80s cars and clothing and a great on/off relationship between Penny and Vince, not to mention Vince's sexy smile and cheeky personality!  A must have!

Staying up to watch Moonlighting as a kid in the 1980s - I loved it, Maddie Ferguson's 80s clothing are superb, and of course the whole will they / won't they aspect of the show which kept fans on tenderhooks

This is also a personal favourite - the dashing young Pierce Brosnan and the gorgeous Stephanie Zimbalist - it has comedy, action, great 80s outfits and great references to old movies in every episode

A great 80s duo - my favourite at the time was Andrew, but as I got older it has to be George Michael - I had a bright yellow sweater with the sleeves cut off at the top of the shoulders - and the name "Wham!" written in red at the front - I adored that jumper - wish I had kept it x

Yazoo - I adore this two piece 80s synth duo - Alison Moyet's haunting voice still sends chills to this day - my favourite being "Only You" - which was rather murdered by another group in the 1980s (who I shall not name!) who had more of a hit with the song than Yazoo!  (Unbelievable)!!!

My all time fave - OMD - who can forget hearing their beautiful songs on Ashes to Ashes many a time - I got the chance to see them at Liverpool Echo in October of last year (2010) and was one of the best concerts I've ever been to - I have to admit that I had tears in my eyes during their rendition of Joan of Arc and Souvenir - best band of all time x

And of course the one that makes me find comparisons between old and new is Ashes to Ashes and Dempsey and Makepeace - a posh pretty female police officer and a hot-shot partner - with amazing cars, fashion and great 1980s London locations - including the London docklands where some of Ashes to Ashes was filmed - not forgetting all that sexual tension - anyhoot what I loved about Dempsey and Makepeace is the fact they actually got married in real life - and I did have a D&M annual which I read religiously.
